Free Tibet
(Dedicated to H.H. 14. Dalai Lama)
He is the one he should return let his way be clear
The freedom fires that slowly burn announce the time is here
Too long the people had to wait, the country was forsaken
Too long it had to be his fate, the distant paths he’s taken
In Daramsala long he prayed in destiny engraved
When foreign forces did invade and nothing could be saved
At just sixteen, a certain death if he fell into their hands
And for his people he must live, but live in other lands.
OM MANI PADME HUM……
His messengers sent far and wide to the most powerful nations
But they remained on China’s side to keep up good relations
No questions pressure they imposed, too much money to be made
To small Tibet their ears were closed, they wanted China’s trade
Violated tortured men, women children too
Precious relics crushed and then, monasteries broken through
People with courage, hope and vision, killed their backs up to the wall
Nothing in press or television, like nothing happening at all.
OM MANI PADME HUM……
As freedom’s flag is soon unfurled in his ancient peaceful home
Close to the summit of the world on Lhasa’s lofty dome
Where peace has reigned for many thousand years
So much wisdom can be gained for everyone who sees and hears
The Christian message we fulfil when love and help we share
We’re always told “you must not kill”, but do we really care?
Christ taught us not to look away, but stand up for the right
Died for the dawning of a day where we are led by light
OM MANI PADME HUM……
He is the one who should return so let his way be clear
The suffering must slowly burn a different day is near
We don’t see from this continent what is happening there
How can we still be so content? Here no one seems to care (we need to learn to care)
A mighty culture they would spoil before our very eyes
The Dalai Lama’s years of toil, just for the Nobel prize
For inner liberty and peace each person has to strive
Our hard, self-centered thoughts must cease for our spirit to come alive.
